Costa Cálida

For those looking for an affordable property for sale in Spain, the Costa Cálida has a number of suitable, inexpensive real estate.  The Costa Cálida stretches from Águilas in the South to El Mojón in the North, near Alicante.  There is some confusion over exactly where the dividing line between the Costa Blanca and the Costa Cálida is placed, so if you're looking for a property in Alicante, you may wish to scout out our properties under Costa Blanca as well.

The region is served by San Javier airport just outside of Murcia.  Alicante airport, while technically in the Costa Blanca, allows easy access to parts of the Costa Cálida, and some may find it preferable for reaching the property which they wish to view.  Like other regions of Spain, the area is well served by a good highway system, and transport links of buses and trains, although you may find that smaller towns do not have train stations, and driving will be more convenient.  Cars can usually be hired from the airports, and your British driving license should be sufficient, as long as it was not issued before 1990, and you do not use it in the country for more than six months at a time.

Property prices in the Costa Cálida are relatively cheap compared to other parts of Spain, with a two bedroom apartment with a communal pool in Fortuna costing as little as £75,000.  Fortuna is a small, unspoiled Spanish town 25km from Murcia, famous for its hot springs, and its beautiful lake surrounded by woods ideal for walking and fishing.  As a nature reserve, the wild beauty of the Spanish town is guaranteed to remain unspoiled, making the town the perfect place to find a peaceful property to purchase for your retirement or simply for holidays.

For a similar price, one could also find a two bedroom villa in Mazarrón for sale, while property prices in the larger city of San Javier are only slightly higher, and a three bedroom property with a swimming pool could cost as little as £173,000.

Due to the Costa Cálida's unique micro-climate and the weather conditions afforded by the area's breathtaking mountain ranges, the ocean is normally warm, and diving is possible year round, making the Costa Cálida a near perfect holiday destination.  The area is arid rather than humid; Costa Cálida translates to the warm coast, and it's easy to understand why.  The warmth of the ocean means that activities such as windsurfing are very popular, and while that will serve as an attraction for some, others may find the friendly atmosphere and romantic Spanish ruins are what draws them to the area.
